Professor Judith Hall from Cardiff and Susanne Batstone from MOA Monaco were welcomed to Chongwe, Zambia to hand over the evergreen school project build to the District Education Authorities through His Excellency Japhen Mwakalombe, Copperbelt Minister and Regional MP. They were interviewed by Chongwe Community Radio and managed to research future projects for 2020.
Four new classrooms and a Teacher’s staff room were completed in three and a half months over summer 2019 under the expert direction of Samantha Litherland of Caukin Studio. This new build ensures class sizes are reduced from 100 to 40 which is a great achievement.
Half of all local workers were women and the Monaco Team’s own Sandrine Oria and Noeline Gally helped dig the foundations alongside student volunteer workers. Local People employed on the build were abled to buy bicycles with their wages, enabling them to search further afield for work.
