A NURSERY AT SHIYALA
Recognising the value of pre-school education, the community and Mothers of Africa has built two more classrooms, with dedicated facilities, to provide a nursery at Shiyala School.
In 2016 Mothers of Africa undertook the most ambitious project in their 12-year history: they built a school in Shiyala village, in rural Zambia. Working literally hand-in-hand with the villagers, and with the backing of the District Education Board, we funded the building of 6 classrooms, a teachers’ house and toilet block.
A year later we added 3 more classrooms. The school has been a great success, with now over 500 children attending lessons up to grade 8 in the Zambian curriculum.
In collaboration with social enterprise architects CAUKIN Studio, plans for the nursery were developed in 2020 but put on hold because of the global pandemic. Thanks to a substantial grant from the Monaco Government, the ground was eventually broken, and the foundations started to be laid in July 2022. The Nursery School was completed in October 2022.
EQUIP THE NURSERY AT SHIYALA
The exciting moment has come, the nursery is built, and it is now time to turn an empty space into a functioning nursery. We have a secure storage area for equipment. Pupils of the international School of Monaco, primary section, have kindly raised funds to start us off, so please help us to raise money to fully equip the nursery by donating to Mothers of Africa using the link below:
