NURSE Education in Northern Namibia
-
Mothers of Africa is making sure it never forgets its roots and has funded a full-on clinical project. Working with the University of Namibia's School of Nursing and Public Health, the UK charity has supported a new project in Nurse Education in Northern Namibia.
-
This is a development of previous education projects in midwifery and nurse leadership, funded by the Welsh Government. As ever, our thanks go to the Welsh Government for the support through various schemes, including Wales and Africa.
-
We have equipped a small Education Centre in Rundu in the far North of Namibia with clinical simulators and educational tools and materials, so that the School of Nursing can run relevant, impactful hands-on courses. It is being widely used by 80 students at a time.

Globally, high rates of Maternal Mortality are difficult to force down, but with concerted efforts throughout African nations, some impact is being seen. Mortality rates are starting to fall, but pressure must be kept up, every life lost is an unnecessary tragedy.
-
One good way to make a difference to this senseless loss of life, is through education. Proper education is a sustainable gift and means that nurses on the spot know how to act in an emergency and know how and when to refer sick patients. Nurses must have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to take control of difficult situations; they must turn round challenging clinical scenarios and ensure good outcomes.
-
This is why we have completed our project for the equipment for a small clinical education centre in Rundu. Rundu is in Kavango East, a region very poorly provided for in terms of support for Nurse Education.
